This is a short post I wanted to make to encourage some friends or readers to embrace documenting their journey. Let’s get into it.

This needs to be said: It’s okay to share your work, even if it’s not perfect. The benefit to you is that it helps you collect your thoughts and reflect on what you’ve learned. Others at the beginning of their learning journey honestly probably don’t care that you’re not an expert. It might even mean that you’re more approachable. Additionally, it’s a great way for you to develop your brand as you learn in your community.

“How do I get started?” you might ask. There are a bunch of ways. It can come in the form of blog posts, Github repos, or social media (Twitter or LinkedIn for example). The thing you want to remember is to try to be transparent and consistent on these platforms. As an added benefit, a few years down the road it will be easy for you to reflect on your progress. If you want to learn more here are two books that helped me be more open to sharing.

Own Your Tech Career by Don Jones

What are you waiting for? Start documenting your journey.
